AI is starting to change all of our lives. In this conversation with IWM Rector MISHA GLENNY, the best-selling science-fiction novelist and computer games writer NAOMI ALDERMAN will consider where this rapidly developing technology is leading and what it means for our collective humanity. She will also ask whether the men and women (though they are mostly men) behind AI, quantum computing, and robotics are reliable partners for democracy, or whether they are aiming to fashion a new dystopia in which, as the serial tech entrepreneur Peter Thiel has predicted, the system will be steered by an elite group of tech entrepreneurs.
NAOMI ALDERMAN is a British novelist, computer game writer, and philosopher of technology. In 2012 she was highlighted as one of the best British novelists of the decade by Granta magazine and her early promise was confirmed when her best-selling novel The Power (Penguin, 2017) won the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction in 2017. It was subsequently turned into a nine-episode TV drama on Amazon Prime.
